Wellbeing photographs

I added various different supplements, health teas, anti depressants etc onto my shots of nature and family acting as prescription like-layers after studying arts therapy extensively as part of my dissertation.

Through my own experiences and those of friends and family members I wanted to talk openly about mental health

The overall outcomes of the analog images felt quite refreshing, and I feel, promoted wellbeing. The films reacted with each different solution, some came out in different colours, mould like specs and dots, flowing swirls.

Mental health problems are the leading cause of death among young people aged 20-34 years in the UK and it is considerably higher in men.

One of the purposes of the photographs was certainly to raise discussion about the taboo of mental health. Art making and galleries are such fantastic places to start when considering platforms for creating important discussion.

The gallery setting is a perfect place for contemplation and visual stimulation. I wanted the images to help people consider what we are doing on a daily basis what we are all doing to generate conversation on such topics and improve QOL

Each image was taken on a Pentax k-1000, by using film photography I felt the process was a more natural way of making my work as opposed to digital which was part of the message I was promoting (the photographs felt more real).
